AusBizLinks, which was short for Australia Business Links, was Australia’s number one business directory. Consistently rated as the most “dynamic” and “user friendly” on the web, it enjoyed successful operation for several years. It was an active link directory, meaning each listing linked to the business’s website or contact information, and was relevant only to Australia’s local areas. Local links, updates on community events and groups, and special savings and promotional offers were all included.
The directory was very easy to use and highly searchable even by the least computer savvy. Visitors to the site could search by business type, location, or even both. For a less generalized search, all or part of the business name or related keywords could also be typed into the search engine. Australia Business Links made sure to stay in constant and direct contact with all of the business listings on its site. This way, it could ensure that all listings and contact information were up to date. Active listings, meaning those that had a website, were always featured in special bold type to alert the site user.
Users of the site were invited to join the Australia Business Links site. Membership was free, and users were able to customize their homepage, meaning the page they saw when they logged into the site. They could even choose which links, ads, and other information was displayed on their own personal pages.
Some activities and information on the site were for members only. Usually these included special promotions – such as sales, coupons, or deals at local retailers – and competitions or contests. Also, only registered members could place classified ads (also free of charge) to sell items or promote various services. The site’s mission statement was simply to “make life easier” for its users, and questions and comments were always welcome.
